Basic Directions
The scenic Alaska Highway links Alaska with Canada and the contiguous United States. It is fully paved with year-round services. If driving to Alaska from the lower 48, however, be prepared for an epic excursion: Fairbanks is 2,243 miles from Seattle.
Closer at hand, at least in Alaskan terms, you'll find Denali National Park is 125 miles to the south, with Anchorage another 240 miles beyond that.
Fairbanks is the northernmost terminus of Alaska's paved and all-season roads; heading north from town is the Dalton Highway, a 414-mile gravel stretch to the north coast, almost entirely above the Arctic Circle.
