Description

The Resurrection River is a fantastic river float for visitors to the Seward-Kenai Region who have limited time but want to add a bit of relaxation and sightseeing to their trip. The Resurrection River was named by Alexander Baranov in 1791, a Russian fur trader who was forced to retreat into the bay during a storm in the Gulf of Alaska. The storm that trapped Baranov happened to dissipate on the Russian Sunday of the Resurrection, or Orthodox Easter, and the bay and river were named it its honor.

Today the Resurrection River is better known as a great scenic river float, a perfect way for travelers to the Seward and Kenai Fjords National Park area to spend a bit of down time enjoying the unique Kenai Peninsula. The Resurrection River is fed by the terminus of the Exit Glacier and flows through the Resurrection Valley, where the river winds between glacier capped peaks. Wildlife is commonly seen along the banks of the Resurrection River, including sightings of Eagles, Moose, and the occasional Bear.

The Resurrection River put-in is road accessed off the Exit Glacier Road, located outside the town of Seward and trips take out at the confluence of the Resurrection River and the sea, located only minutes from the town of Seward.
