Description

A trip down Twentymile River is a wonderful way to spend a day in the beautiful Kenai Peninsula, the scenic waterway accessed via impressive helicopter flight over the Chugach Mountains.

Twentymile River winds deep through coastal rainforest as it drains the Chugach Mountains above the Seward Highway. The river is aptly named as it flows gently for twenty-miles from its source at Carmen Lake to its confluence with the sea at Turnagain arm. Visitors to Twentymile River will have ample opportunity to view a variety of wildlife along the riverbanks ranging from Bald and Golden Eagles, to Moose, Wolves, Bears and Mountain Goats.

The put-in on Twentymile River is accessed via helicopter flight from Girdwood, a resort town within a ½ hour drive from Anchorage. The helicopter flight to Twentymile allows for impressive sightseeing of the magnificent Chugach Range with 6,000 foot glaciated peaks jutting dramatically from the sea. Alternatively, jet boat trips have become a popular way to explore Twentymile River. The takeout for the river is just along the Seward Highway after the river empties into Turnagain Arm.
